The Sailmaster 26 stands as a fascinating intersection of American yacht design and Dutch industrial craftsmanship. Conceived during the early "golden age" of fiberglass production in the 1960s, the vessel was commissioned by Sailmaster of New York and designed by the prestigious firm Sparkman & Stephens, assigned as Design No. 1655. While the design hailed from the drawing boards of Olin Stephens, the construction was entrusted to Werf Gusto in Schiedam, Netherlands. This partnership brought the rigorous engineering standards of a shipyard typically reserved for offshore oil rigs and heavy dredging equipment to the world of recreational pocket cruisers. The result was a vessel characterized by a "little ship" feel, blending the seaworthiness of a heavydisplacement cruiser with the refined aesthetics of a classic S&S sloop.
