The Nacra 5.5 Sloop stands as a highperformance benchmark from the golden age of beach catamaran racing, representing a crucial design leap in the mid1980s. Designed by Tom Roland in collaboration with the Nacra Design Group and refined by Roy Seaman, the 5.5 series was engineered to bridge the gap between recreational, lowbuoyancy beach cats of the 1970s and the highly specialized, ultralight carbon racing machines that would eventually evolve into the modern Formula 18 class. This model represents a direct, refined descendant of Nacra's pioneering 5.2 and was structurally derived from the massive 18 Square Meter class platform. It was conceived for advanced, technically minded sailors who demanded a vessel capable of handling extreme powertoweight ratios, offering far greater speed and precision than massmarket recreational catamarans while remaining highly manageable for beach launching and road trailering.
