The Morgan Giles 30, designed by Kenneth Collyer as the chief designer of Morgan Giles Limited in Teignmouth, Devon, is a quintessential British pocket cruiser that bridges the gap between traditional timber boatbuilding and the early fiberglass revolution. First conceived in 1964 as Collyer’s personal yacht, the design received the blessing of Francis Charles Morgan Giles before the yard's closure in 1969. Subsequently, Somerset Plastics acquired the molds, continuing production of approximately 75 hulls from 1965 through 1996. It is critical to distinguish this vessel from the entirely unrelated, beamy, and shoaldraft Morgan 30 and Out Island 30 series designed by Charles Morgan in the United States. The Morgan Giles 30 is a traditional, narrowbeam, fullkeeled yacht engineered specifically to withstand the grueling, shortchop conditions of the English Channel and the North Sea.
