The MacGregor 21, originally introduced as the Venture 21 in 1965, serves as the foundational pillar of the MacGregor Yacht Corp. legacy. Designed by Roger MacGregor during his MBA years, this model was a disruptor in the midcentury marine market, proving that a fiberglass keelboat could be both genuinely trailerable and remarkably affordable. Its introduction preceded the "sailing boom" of the 1970s, and by the time production ceased in the late 1970s, it had become one of the most successful small cruisers in history. The vessel's identity is defined by its low profile, extreme light weight, and the revolutionary swingkeel design that allowed it to be launched in kneedeep water from a standard boat ramp. While the name transitioned from "Venture" to "MacGregor" in 1969, the hull remained a consistent performer, often credited with bringing thousands of middleclass families into the sport of sailing.
