First launched in the mid1970s, the L 23 stands as one of Denmark’s most successful and enduring national pocketcruiser classes. Designed in 1975 by a then17yearold Lars Olsen under the watchful eye of his father, Knud Olsen—the famed designer and builder of the Bandholm line—the L 23 was conceived with a clear and elegant mission: to deliver a highly seaworthy, attractive, and affordable family sailboat that could be effortlessly handled by a small crew or even a single hand. Over a production run that spanned more than a decade, approximately 405 hulls were built, cementing the boat’s legacy as a staple of Baltic and North Sea sailing. The design masterfully balances the aesthetic of the International Offshore Rule (IOR) era with an emphasis on passive stability and robust Scandinavian construction, making it an exceptional first yacht or an inviting downsized daysailor.
