In the early 1980s, the French yachting industry embraced a design movement focused on maximizing interior volume and lifestyle versatility in smaller hulls. This "fiftyfifty" or motorsailer philosophy yielded some of the era's most innovative cruisers, which aimed to bridge the gap between traditional sailing performance and the comfort of powerboat deckhouses. Introduced by Jeanneau in 1983 and produced in very limited numbers until 1986, the Espace 620 was the smallest entry in the manufacturer's ambitious "Espace" line. While larger siblings like the Espace 1000 and 1100 established themselves as true decksaloon cruisers, the Jeanneau Design Office engineered the Espace 620 to prove that "living on board" was achievable on a trailerable 20foot platform. With only approximately 30 hulls built during its brief production run, the Espace 620 remains a rare and highly specialized example of pocketcruising engineering.
