The Hunter JY15 stands as a testament to the versatility of smallboat design, bridging the gap between a highperformance racing dinghy and a stable family daysailer. Designed by the renowned Rod Johnstone of J/Boats fame, the JY15 was originally launched by JY Boats before production was moved to Hunter Marine (now MarlowHunter). The boat's defining characteristic is its Advanced Composite Process (ACP) construction—a thermoformed plastic skin over a structural foam core—which was marketed as being significantly more impactresistant than traditional fiberglass. With a length of 15 feet and a generous beam, the JY15 was engineered to provide a platform that is "forgiving enough for a novice, yet fast enough for a seasoned racer," according to the MarlowHunter archives. While Hunter produced the lion's share of these vessels, the hull remains a strictly controlled onedesign class that has seen significant use in collegiate and club racing programs across North America.
