Designed by Paul Coble and introduced in 1964, the Corsair 24 (later built and popularized as the Bristol 24 or Bristol Corsair) represents a defining benchmark in the classic era of fiberglass boatbuilding. Launched during the postwar recreational sailing boom, the design was conceived as an overbuilt, seaworthy "pocket cruiser". It was initially manufactured by the Sailstar Boat Company of West Warwick, Rhode Island. Following Sailstar’s financial reorganization in 1971, the molds and rights were acquired by Clint Pearson’s Bristol Yachts, which continued to refine and construct the model until 1983, resulting in a total production run of roughly 750 hulls. In an era where 24footers were frequently treated as simple daysailers, Coble designed the Corsair 24 to offer the interior volume, structural safety, and heavyweather capability of a much larger offshore cruising vessel.
