The Contest 30, designed by Gerard Luyten and introduced in the late 1960s, represents a pivotal era for the Dutch builder Conyplex (now Contest Yachts). Following the massive success of the Contest 25, the 30 was engineered to provide a more robust, bluewater capable platform for sailors looking to venture beyond coastal waters. Built with a heavyduty, handlaid fiberglass hull, the vessel was a standout for its time, embodying the brand's shift toward highend, semicustom quality. While contemporary boats were beginning to experiment with lighter materials, the Contest 30 maintained a philosophy of "overengineering," resulting in a hull that many owners describe as virtually "bulletproof."
