The ComPac 19 represents the quintessential "pocket cruiser," designed to bridge the gap between small daysailers and more complex coastal vessels. Introduced in 1979 as a successor to the wildly popular ComPac 16, the 19 was penned by naval architect Bruce Bingham, who is perhaps best known for designing the Flicka 20. This pedigree is evident in the boat’s "little ship" aesthetic and its robust construction. Unlike many trailerable sailboats of its era that relied on water ballast or swing keels for stability, the ComPac 19 utilizes a fixed, shoaldraft keel containing approximately 800 pounds of encapsulated lead. This design choice results in a displacement of roughly 2,000 pounds, making it significantly heavier and more stable than many of its 19foot contemporaries.
