During the golden era of European fiberglass yacht building, the French yard Constructions Maritimes E. Richard—affectionately known to classic yacht connoisseurs simply as Chantier Richard—forged a unique reputation. Combining the rotproof ease of fiberglass hulls with the visual splendor of traditional wood craftsmanship, the shipyard constructed "yachts of character" that stood in stark contrast to the rapidly industrializing production lines of the era. Among their most celebrated models is the Chassiron GC (Grande Croisière), a 34foot masthead ketch introduced in 1974. Designed by the highly respected naval architect Michel Joubert, the Chassiron GC was conceived as a robust, longlegged cruiser capable of safe ocean passages while surrounding its crew with the timeless warmth of handvarnished hardwoods. Over a tenyear production run ending in 1984, approximately 120 of these distinctive cruisers were launched, appealing to sailors who demanded heavyweather capability and artisanlevel joinery.
