The Amigo 23 represents a quintessential era of Scandinavian boatbuilding, emerging from the Arksunds Båtbyggeri yard on the island of Öckerö, Sweden. Conceived in 1970 and produced until 1983, this rugged pocket cruiser was the brainchild of renowned naval architect Carl Andersson—celebrated for his work on the Vindö line of yachts—and built by his son, Arne Arksund. The origin of the Amigo line is rooted in West Coast Swedish maritime grit: after a severe autumn storm battered regional harbors in the late 1960s, Arksund generated substantial capital by repairing damaged wooden and fiberglass vessels. He subsequently invested these profits into tooling a new line of exceptionally stout fiberglass cruisers. With roughly 300 to 350 hulls produced, the Amigo 23 became the most prolific model in the yard’s portfolio, appealing to traditionalists seeking an indestructible, seakindly vessel in a highly compact package.
