Designed by the prolific Swedish naval architect Per Brohäll in the mid1960s, the Albin Viggen 23 stands as a pivotal design in the democratization of European yachting. Originally conceived as an affordable, seaworthy "folksailor" for Sweden’s burgeoning middleclass cruising market, the model played a massive role in the transition from traditional wooden boats to seriesbuilt fiberglass pocket cruisers. Brohäll, who also penned the legendary Albin Vega 27 and the Albin 25 motor cruiser, optimized the Viggen 23 to serve as a capable weekend cruiser that could occasionally tackle challenging coastal races 2. During its decadelong production run, the model earned a reputation for being remarkably robust for its length, offering a safe entrylevel cruising platform that was easy to singlehand, maintain, and trailer.
