Buying a used Nordship: a small yard's individually built deck saloons

A Nordship on the used market came from one of the smaller production runs a buyer is likely to encounter: around a dozen boats a year by the time of a 2023 test, with each hull finished to its first owner's own specification rather than assembled from a fixed catalog. That scale cuts both ways — fewer comparable examples to check pricing or spec against, but a yard that worked directly with each buyer, down to hull core material and Custom Line interior choices. It also means the badge on the hull no longer points to an independent, active builder: Nordship and Faurby Yachts had been under common ownership since 2018, and by May 2025 the two brands consolidated fully, with Lars Buchwald stepping down as managing director and the deck-saloon range carrying on under Faurby's name.

Which era to target

Early Nordship boats, like the 28 and 666 from the early 1980s, predate the deck-saloon focus the yard is known for. From the early 1990s on, the model program consisted only of individually built Deck Saloon Yachts, and construction stayed consistent across that era — hand-laid fiberglass sandwich hulls reinforced with an internal galvanized steel frame and a through-bolted keel, the same build recipe from the 360 DS up through the 570 DS. A buyer targeting one of the later, larger DS models is also buying into the brand's final chapter before the 2025 merger folded that lineup into a different company's name.

Size and era do most of the sorting work here: a compact 1980s-built 28 or 666 is a different proposition from a purpose-built Deck Saloon Yacht from the 1990s onward, and the later DS boats themselves span a wide size range, each finished to its original owner's own specification rather than a fixed template.
