Buying a used Mylius: a small yard's boats, distinguished more by era than by trim level

A used Mylius isn't a boat off a high-volume production line -- it's a hull from a small, owner-funded Italian yard whose entire sailing output has been designed almost entirely by one person, Alberto Simeone, across two decades. That continuity cuts both ways for a buyer: it means less variation in underlying design philosophy from one Mylius to the next, but it also means a boat's era and provenance -- who built it, where, and under what ownership -- carries more weight than it would at a brand with rotating design houses and shifting production volumes. Buying used here is less about picking a trim level and more about placing a specific hull correctly within the yard's history.

Which era to target

The earliest boats -- five 37-footers and eight 48-footers built in the yard's first four years after its early-2000s founding -- predate a size floor Mylius set for itself afterward: the yard never built below 50 feet again, which marks the clearest dividing line in the used range. A second line falls around 2011 to 2012, when Twinpack Group bought a 51 percent stake in the shipyard and boats began coming out of the newly opened Podenzano plant rather than the yard's earlier, smaller operation. Across both eras, hulls have been laminated in Poland and finished in Italy, so build quality shouldn't vary by hull origin the way it might at a yard that changed suppliers over time. A buyer looking at the newest boats should also expect hulls credited to a second designer, Giovanni Ceccarelli, rather than to Simeone alone -- worth confirming on anything built from around 2025 forward.

Mylius's range runs from those early 37- and 48-footers through a core of 50s, 60s, 65s and 76s, up into a Mini Maxi band between 60 and 65 feet and an 80-foot class the yard added more recently. The shipyard itself has said it doesn't intend to build past 100 feet, so buyers weighing size classes shouldn't expect a larger line to appear later. The full model directory on this page breaks the range down by dimensions for buyers comparing where a given hull sits within that spread.
