Buying a used CT: the badge covers more than one designer's work

A used CT is a Ta Chiao-built hull, not a single-designer product line. The Taiwanese yard put its own boats out under one badge while building to plans from at least two different naval architects, so the CT name on the transom tells a buyer less on its own than confirming which drawing a specific hull was actually built to.

Which era to target

Within the catalog's four CT models, design pedigree tracks the individual boat rather than the calendar: the 1982-built 44 (Pilot House) carries a documented design credit, and so does the 1983-built 65/Scorpio 72, while the earlier 1978 38 (Warwick) and the 1983 47 (Ctr) have no design attribution on record here. A buyer shouldn't assume that proximity in build year means a shared design lineage across these four -- each model needs to be checked on its own credit, not inferred from the one next to it in the lineup. The yard behind all of them had already been building in fiberglass for well over a decade by the time any of these four launched, so hull material itself isn't a useful way to sort an early CT from a late one; the design credit, where one exists, is the more telling marker of era.

Two of the four catalog models carry a documented designer: the 44 traces to one naval architect's own design-office records, the 65/Scorpio 72 to another's published production list. Weigh that pedigree on a model-by-model basis rather than trusting the CT badge broadly -- it covers boats from more than one drawing board built by the same Taiwanese yard. The 38 and the 47 carry no such documented credit; a buyer drawn to either of those two is buying more on the Ta Chiao build itself than on a named designer's reputation. The full model directory on this page breaks each out by year and length.
