The Geary 18, originally known as the 18' Development Class Flattie or simply the Flattie, is an iconic American one-design sailboat renowned for its simplicity, speed, and approachable handling. Conceived in 1928 by the prolific naval architect Ted Geary, the design was commissioned by the Seattle Yacht Club with the primary goal of creating an accessible and fast platform for youth racing. Over 1,500 units of this 18-foot vessel have been built, with initial production by the N.J. Blanchard Boat Company and later by other builders, including the Clark Boat Company, which adapted the design to modern fiberglass construction.
